Januik/Novelty Hill

A very unique father-son adventure with 26 wines. One could visit just here in Woodinville and not need to go anywhere else with this number of wines. Many wines are sourced from their estate property called Stillwater, and the other uniquely from properties where Mr Mike Januik developed a relationship as the winemaker at Chateau Ste Michelle. After retiring, he built his own winery (tasting room right across the street from Chateau Ste Michelle) with his son Andrew. Many of the wines are rated 90 points. We learned that Mike prefers ni surprises or overpowering wines and produces consistent, easy drinking Washington classic varietals. Andrew, his son, prefers more adventurous products with big power-punch to them and age-able structure, tannin and complexity. Every single wine is barreled in French oak and we noticed occasional soft tobacco/cigar. We enjoyed the chardonnays of which they have two versions, one is Stillwater estate and one from Cold Creek. My companion and I couldn’t decide so we bought one of each. They each featured a soft ripe pineapple, possibly from the French oak.

Januik is lovely place to visit in Woodinville near to the freeway and before entering congested tasting room areas. Theres plenty space to accommodate and spread out. Oh, and they also feature pizza and purchasable cheese boards. One could easily lunch here and enjoy the wines and food. Nice facility and knowledgeable staff thanks Cody for taking care of us.

Studying wine since the early 80's, I've become a Wine Studies Education level III solely though interest, and I occasionally represent an Italian importer, while working full-time as a financial national speaker. I'm always seeking a 'find' whether taste or value wine versions.
