PRAXIS Russian River Valley Gewurztraminer
Looking for a wonderful summer-sipper that will go with chicken, Asian, sweet BBQ… I’ve got a unique Gewurztraminer from Russian River valley that does this. Not the area you might think for Gewurztraminer.
Russian River valley makes Gewurztraminer wines off-dry with low residual sugar. This 2013 from Praxis, in Geyserville California, brought into Ohio by Bottle-2-Glass in Akron,
The color was a clear fresh Sauvignon-Blanc-looking light-lemon. I picked up amazing aromas of fresh fruit, clean and crisp with a lemon tone.
The flavors compared and were bright and fresh with the tastes duplicated in the aromas. They were a deeper lemon curd and hints of tropical papaya. I also felt that it revealed a yellow apple flavor with some spice. Couldn’t identify the spice, but I guessed slight hints if nutmeg. Someone tasting with me disagreed, so the spice identification is up for clarification.
The wine was wonderfully medium-bodied with rounded with nice full-mouth malalactic acid, taking down the acid-edge and creating a longer-lasting sweetness.
You can get this beauty for 14.99 retail, a steal as others online indicated between $25 and $35. Pair with cheese and fruit, or light Asian + sweet BBQ.
