Seeking Jammy Red – Hunnicut Fearless good
If you are seeking a jammy red, consider this one.
Hunnicutt “Fearless Red” from Napa, California, is a rhone-blend of blend: Syrah, Cinsault, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah.
It was beautifully jammy, full-bodied weighted and rich. Bursting with ripe black cherry and dark chocolate flavors. The winemakers page says it was their first experiment with Syrah and produced “rich brambled notes of raspberry and cherry compote with a fruity core, which marries nicely to hints of violet, vanilla and a springy welcoming acidity on the back palate that frames the fruit and encourages continued enjoyment” Their version is a long-winded summary. I concur with most of it, but I noted strong black cherry as the primary fruit forward flavor in the 2017 vintage.
At the restaurant (Bistro 83 in Avon) it was $60 and online retail it’s $30. Recommend as much as Michael David’s 6-th Sense or Petit-Petite, and that’s saying a lot!
